Should We Follow Germany’s Lead When it Comes to Revenge Porn?

I saw this article on HuffPo, and aside from the fact that the photo at the top features the cutest girl in the entire world, the article got me thinking. A very, very high level synopsis is this: A guy in Germany had some erotic photos of his ex-girlfriend on his phone and she asked him to delete them but he didn’t want to, so she took him to court and the court ordered that he should have deleted the photos as soon as she asked him to. The main point is that the German court found that the girlfriend's personal rights trumped the ownership rights of the boyfriend.

Whatever Happened to 3D Porn?

It has become a truism that porn tends to lead the way when it comes to technology. I don’t know if that was true in days gone by, but at least since the advent of the world wide web pornographers have been constantly forging new ground in uses of technology. In a way they’ve become victims of their own success because it’s so easy to get porn on the internet for free that they’re having trouble figuring out how to get people to pay for it, but that’s a topic for another post (and I’ve already written a bit on the topic anyway).

How Porn Impacts Us, Part 2: Addiction

In part 1 of this series I wrote a bunch of nebulous crap about control groups and pseudo-science, and wrote very little about actual porn. This despite the fact that I joked about three pornstars opening a “clinic” where they give away free sex, which would have been a great jumping-off point for a fantasy at the very least.

Now let’s talk about a topic that many people probably think about when they ponder the effects of porn on society: addiction. Is porn addictive? And if so, how does the addiction play out – what are the symptoms?

Porn (And Sex) in the 21st Century

To a certain extent this post is a “me too” post, piling on to what Jamal Registre said in a post on Boinkology 101. (Boinkology 101 is Lux Alptraum’s new blog, and I’ll be following it closely. It promises to be quite interesting.) Registre’s main point (if I may oversimplify) is that his phone is so tied into every facet of his life – including his sex life – that he’s having trouble learning how to cope with the new technology. Or, at the very least, integrate it with his sex life. I especially like the anecdote about him setting the phone down at work only to have the phone’s Live Tile feature start displaying his sex pics for his colleagues to see. I can easily see that happening.

And I feel his pain.

My History With Porn: High-Speed Internet

Throughout my college years, and for a few years into my working life, I connected to the internet through modems, eventually getting up to 28.8 kilobits per second – much faster than I’d been connecting, but still not very fast at all. As my career took off and money started coming in regularly I was able to trade up.
