Porn I Like: Erotic Fiction

Most of the porn that I write about or link to or obsess over is of a visual nature. The vast majority of porn I consume is in the form of pictures, and the next biggest category is video. (I’ve talked before about the reasons for that ratio: being married and keeping my porn consumption “under the table” means that I don’t often get a chance to consume porn with audio.)

However being observant – not to mention highly intelligent and quite sexy – you will have noticed that I’m pretty fuckin wordy. I mean sure, I sprinkle the occasional smutty picture around the blog, but I also talk a helluva lot. So you won’t be surprised to learn that I also enjoy erotic literature.

It may seem old fashioned to some of you young ‘uns but erotic fiction can get inside the head better than other forms of porn. It engages the imagination in a way that other formats can’t; videos and even pictures force feed you the details, whereas in fiction you create the details yourself.

I even create erotic fiction, though not in a public way. I do sometimes engage in what used to be called cyber, although these days I fear that the word “cyber” connotes webcams whereas I’m talking about a purely textual relationship. When I have a girlfriend I enjoy sending her erotic fantasies. Sometimes I’ll even conduct an entire affair with a woman I never meet, communicating only over email or instant messaging. Maybe we’ll exchange photos, but the vast majority of our communications are email or IM fantasies.

This can be an incredibly erotic relationship, and as an added bonus I can “replay” the sex anytime I want – I don’t have to wait until the next time we can both get free to meet in a hotel. Is it as good as “real” sex? No, of course not. I’m not an idiot. Having sex is better than talking about it, and it’s better than watching it. But it’s still very erotic to engage a woman’s mind fully, to get inside and turn her on from the inside. Uh... in a different way than I’d normally be inside her, when talking about sex. (Did I over explain that? Probably – and after I just finished saying my readers are intelligent. I enjoy literature, but I’m not good at creating it.)

I haven’t yet written much about the addictive nature of porn, but one of the side effects of porn addiction is always needing more; something new, pushing things further, enjoying something that you might have found disgusting a few months earlier. I find that to be much less the case when it comes to erotic literature. A very “tame” scene, just “normal” sex between a man and a woman, can be quite erotic when done right.

Then again, the opposite is also true: Just like with cartoons, erotic literature gives us the ability to explore topics that couldn’t otherwise be explored. That’s what we call the best of both worlds.
